Charlotte's Story: Childhood Liver Cancer
Written by: Bill Sparks Posted on: March 10, 2017 Blog: Warriors
At 15 months old, our baby girl Charlotte Reece was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, cancer of the liver.
Here are some of the latest updates:
After a few delays, Charlotte went to the OR at noon. They said it would take about 3 hours.
The doctors decided to only clean out her left lung because doing both sides would be too hard on her.
Our meeting with the oncologist yesterday was difficult. I don't really know how to describe it other than we all know we are in a very tough battle to get Charlotte to a cure.
It's a journey that will take time and many scans and possibly more chemo...
Her oncologist, Dr. Geller, repeated many times how unfortunate it is that Charlotte has already received "all the therapies", meaning, she has been given all of the types of chemo to fight this. So, if chemo is recommended, it will be a drug she has already been given and we would hope it works a second time.
A more concrete treatment plan will be determined after the pathology report comes back in a day or two.
One step at a time. We're going to get her through this surgery and face the next step as it comes.
The posts and messages and pure LOVE we feel today (and always) are so important and appreciated. It helps us. We thank you.
