As we jump into the second half of the book, let's continue to look at "Making Vision Stick."

This will give a foundation for our time together next week.

So, let's dive in and dissect Andy's thoughts..

THOUGHT #8

(numbers continued from last post)

"Every organization is different, even though the people in every organization are pretty much the same. We all need to be reminded why we are doing what we are doing. We need to be reminded what's at stake. We need to be reminded of the vision. And we need it more often than most leaders realize." (pg 38)

What comes to you mind when you read the above paragraph from Andy?

THOUGHT #9

CELEBRATE THE VISION SYSTEMATICALLY ~ Celebrating the wins does more to clarify the vision than anything else.

I think about the "wins" we experienced last year...

~492 families last year were reminded they were not alone in the journey against cancer, illness and grief.

~49 Families so far this year have joined the amazing support system, driven by Christ's love, that Gilead's staff, board and volunteers. Their lives are changing because of OUR outreach. You AND me. Your role is just as impactful as any.

~God graciously provided financially during the end of 2019 in ways only HE could have done.

Each month Teresa collects and organizes information for our "Ministry Highlights", what do you enjoy about these stories and data?

Is there a "celebration" that would help you see the "wins" along the way during 2020?

"...for the vision to stick, you need to develop systematic ways to celebrate your wins." (pg 44)

THOUGHT #10

EMBRACE THE VISION PERSONALLY ~ "When people are convinced that the vision has stuck withyou, it is easier for them to make the effort to stick with the vision." (pg 47)

"When it is evident to those closest to you that you have personally embraced the vision, you give them permission to do the same. At that point you're not leading from position - you're leading from influence." (pg 48)

How can I help you get a handle on the vision of Gilead Ministries. You and I are the face and drive behind the mission. Our ability to communicate this mission/vision will always be stronger as we encourage and educate each other. When we keep the core of our beliefs (another word for mission/vision) central to our lives, we build and continue to build life changing opportunities.

Gilead's core "beliefs" have always been defined by the "foundation" of it's original mission statement...

Known as the "Three "B's"...

...BUILD A RELATIONSHIP ~ We love others, regardless of their beliefs, lifestyles, struggles, hurts, agreement with our faith and any other barrier others may consider important to Christianity. As such, even though we know there are choices and beliefs that we may not agree with, we understand that people are loved by God and Jesus died for them. So, we work on taking down walls so we can Build A Relationship with no strings attached. We don't need them to respond for our emotional, spiritual well being. We allow the person we are serving to define what they would like for us to be in their life and we respect that.

~BEAR A BURDEN - Because the battle against cancer, illness and grief can weigh the heart of a person down, we come alongside those we serve and through consistent reminders of God's love and our love, we help them carry the burdens that are causing their heart to falter, their faith to diminish. We "Bear Burdens" through spiritual, emotional and practical support which can consist of anything from a card to a financial payment for some need.

...BRING A MESSAGE OF HOPE ~ This isn't rocket science. If you truly love others and wish to help relieve burdens from their life, then you know that YOU can't really do that. You are incapable of being for others what only one person can be. That person is Jesus Christ. So, the message of our love (relationship) and our burden relief is that Jesus wants to intersect with you and fill your life full of himself. That is the true message of our faith. Apart from HOPE, which can only come in Christ, we are unable to know life.

"Smart people will not embrace a marketing scheme for someone's personal agenda. I'm tempted to say that "no one" will follow a leader who doesn't live his or her vision. But the truth is, people do it all the time. Eventually they wake up to discover they've bee used and deceived. (pg 50)

THOUGHT #11

Vision Slippage Indicators ~ Read pg 54 - 62

Are there any areas that Andy identifies as "slippage" you can identify in the recent or past history of Gilead?

What can we do to "forgive", "release" or "address" these?

Thank you for your time... I hope these thoughts are catalysts for our discussion next Tuesday... See You There!
