Liar, Liar

Written by: Bill Sparks Posted on: September 28, 2015 Blog: GrowLead

There are times in my life when I am confronted with statements that make me stop in my tracks, take a deep breath and meditate. This chapter is one of those times. Andy makes a number of statements. .

Digest these and as you do, please comment....

~"...if good people go to heaven, Jesus completely misled his audiences and, on one occasion, wrongly comforted a dying man."

~"...he taught that God was intent on not giving people what they deserved...to give men and women exactly what they do not deserve."

~"...he declared that even the best of among them was not good enough to reach God on his own merit...he pointed to the Pharisee and said, "As good as you are, you aren't good enough."

~"...(the common people knew)...if their religious leaders weren't good enough, then who could be? The average man and woman didn't have time to be that good. There were jobs to do, kids to raise, sheep to shear. If the Pharisees weren't good enough to earn their way into God's kingdom, then nobody was."

~"If you are looking for a God who lets good people into heaven, stay away from the New Testament. And by all means avoid the teachings of Jesus."

~"...he seems to contradict himself. One minute he assured bad people they had a place reserved in God's kingdom. Then he turned right around and assured the best people they didn't."

~"If you think I've misrepresented the teachings of Jesus, check it our for yourself."

Well, what do you think? Check him out! If you find a "keep this law/rule/standard" in the NT or in Jesus' teachings, please share it and let's compare notes.

Till next week, when we look at Chapter 8, comment away!

Jesus' different way of looking at things certainly turns our common assumptions about getting to heaven on their heads! It's sad to realize that none of us are good enough for heaven - "For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God", but it's also encouraging to know that Jesus IS good enough and He extends His grace to us if we'll just accept it! I'm so thankful to finally be released from the continuous attempts to be good enough and always failing. What a losing battle! So thankful that Jesus fought the battle on my behalf, and WON!
