Fairly Unfair....

Written by: Bill Sparks Posted on: October 14, 2015 Blog: GrowLead

Well, here we are, at the end of a multi-week journey through the thoughts of a man who has tried to convince us that there is no way in the world you or I can live "good enough" for God to give us eternal life based on the things we do with our life...

Have you been challenged by this thought?

Have you been comforted by these words?

Have you changed any or grown any?

Today I want to wrap up our conversation by addressing the last two chapters. They are a "left hand, right hand" finish, they go together, so I wanted to finish my last blog post by addressing the issue Andy closes this book with, fairness.

Here are some of the assertions Andy makes...

  • Christianity is the fairest possible system in a world that is irreversibly unfair.
  • The issue is not What do I like? or How was I raised? or What makes me comfortable? The issue is What it true?
  • We don't determine what is true based on whether or not it is fair.
  • If at the end of this book you are not convinced that Christianity is fair, it still says nothing about whether or not Christianity is true. Fairness does not determine truth.
  • When people complain about something not being fair, it is almost always a smoke screen for the fact that they are not getting something they want.
  • Do you really want God to give you what you deserve?
  • The God of Christianity never claims to be fair. He goes beyond fair...he decided not to give us what we deserve - that's mercy. In addition, God decided to give us exactly what we don't deserve - we call it grace.
  • Unfair, isn't it? If the Bible is true, we pay every day for a decision made by two naked ancestors we never met who lived in a garden we aren't even sure existed. Why should we pay for their sins?
  • What could be more fair?
    • Everybody is welcome.
    • Everybody gets in the same way.
    • Everybody can meet the requirement.

So, what are your thoughts?

What sticks in your mind the most about this book?

Would you consider sharing this book with other believers?

Would you consider giving this book to a friend, relative or co-worker who is either struggling with salvation or needing to give their life to Christ?

C'mon, share away!

Comments welcome!

See ya at the board meeting (I mean the ones who are able to attend, for those who are not, I miss you already!)...

Looking forward to our next reading adventure, you will receive your book at November's board meeting.
