Chapter 15 ~ Slippery Sheep and Healed Hurts

Written by: Bill Sparks Posted on: December 30, 2016 Blog: GrowLead

There are only a few times when I have made this statement... "Max didn't do a good job connecting me to his topic." But this chapter is one of those times.

It may not be the same for you, but I didn't connect with the idea of anointing a sheep for bugs and head butts. But, that doesn't mean he has nothing to say in this chapter.

Here are some of the thoughts that stuck with me, despite the disconnect with the illustrations:

  • Sheep aren't the only ones who need preventative care... We also get irritated with each other, butt heads, and get wounded. Many of our disappointments in life begin as irritations. (pg 128)
  • The large portion of our disappointments are not lion-sized attacks, but rather the day to day .... frustrations and mishaps and heartaches. (pg 128)
  • ...we, like sheep, get wounded. ...we, like sheep, have a shepherd. (pg 128)
  • ...he will tend to you. ... If you will let him... the steps are so simple (pg 129)
    • First, go to him. (pg 129)
    • Second, assume the right posture. (pg 130)
    • Third, we trust.. (implied in the paragraph that follows pg 130)
  • When we come to God, we make requests; we don't make demands. We come with high hopes and a humble heart. We state what we want, but we pray for what is right. (pg 130)
  • We go to him. We bow before him and we trust in him. (pg 130)
  • Go ... Bow ... Trust ... Worth a try, don't you think?

I shared my thoughts, what are yours?

I find sheep interesting... they are totally dependent on their shepherd for everything. If not for a good shepherd to care for them the get lost, starve, and die. If the shepherd does not tend to the wounds, shave them, keep them from the many dangers of their surroundings... well they die. They stink, are very dense, and have no real self preservation skills to speak of. Without the Good Shepherd's care we to get lost, incur wounds, and get swallowed up by our surroundings. Like sheep, we know and can trust our Shepherds voice. When He calls we know if we go... bow... and trust He has a healing oil/balm for us. Thank you Lord for loving and caring for us as your sheep.
