A Matter Of Conscience...

Written by: Bill Sparks Posted on: September 11, 2015 Blog: GrowLead

Some thoughts from Chapter 4, would enjoy hearing your thoughts on them...

~...Your conscience is an interesting thing. It condemns you when you do bad, but it doesn't do much in the way of assuring you when you do well. It reminds you that you aren't perfect, but it gives you no direction in terms of how perfect they need to be to secure reservation on the other side.

~...Think about it. Sense of right and wrong had the ability to reassure you things are right between you and God there would be no need for religion at all.… A cross cultural is regarding his right.

~...Giordano Bruno was condemned by the church for the position stick.... Galileo… Under the threat of torture and death, he was forced to renounce all belief in Copernican theories. He was then sentenced to house arrest for the remainder of his days

~.. When Christian missionaries presented the story of Jesus, tribal members stood up and clapped when the storyteller got to the part of Judas betraying Christ. They thought Judas was the hero of the story!

~...In the early 50s, black people were actually not welcomed… I read in the church archives of an incident that was so and will to me I tracked down somebody who attended during those years… One Sunday morning a black woman arrived early for a Sunday morning service… And a few other people century time… One by one they got up and left. Soon the crowd gathered in the effects. The deacons would not allow anyone to enter until they could figure out what to do. After brief meeting they decided to turn off the lights! … Once the crisis had passed… The pastor and music director took their places on the platform … the congregation sang … Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

~... right about now, readers … Are asking, what about the Bible? What about the 10 Commandments? Didn't God give us the Bible to show us how to live? Some people think so.

There ya go...

I thought Andy Stanley gave an interesting thought about the law on p. 42-43: "God gave his people a system of rules to live by that were in keeping with the way he thought people should conduct themselves. But nowhere did he promise heaven for those who kept he law. And nowhere did he threaten hell for those who didn't. In fact, god didn't expect Israel to keep the law perfectly. That's why he prescribed the elaborate system of sacrifices." We know from scripture that God's people did a miserable job of keeping the law and found out that no amount of sacrifices could actually take away their sinful nature. Jesus' sacrifice of Himself on our behalf was the only one that could accomplishment that. In fact, Jesus turned the whole idea of the law on its head because He fulfilled the law! Paul explains in Romans 13:8-10 that we now have a much simpler way than trying to keep all those particular laws: "Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law. The commandments, 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not murder,' 'Do not steal,' Do not covet,' and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." Paul goes on to explain in verse 14 that we must "clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature." This would be the best guide to determining if what our conscience is telling us is right or not!
